Tessa Gould Joins AARP ND Staff
Gould will have primary responsibility for organizing and coordinating state and federal advocacy on issues of importance to AARP members, as well as a key role in supporting volunteers and members who are engaged in working on those issues.
“Tessa’s working knowledge of Congress and her extensive background in public policy development will be an important benefit to AARP members in North Dakota,” said State Director Janis Cheney. “This is an especially critical time as Congress embarks on budget and debt reduction discussions that could greatly impact our members, their families and all North Dakotans.”
Gould most recently served as chief of staff to Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin of South Dakota. She has previously worked with Congressman Earl Pomeroy and Senator Byron L. Dorgan.
Gould currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Jamestown College Alumni Association. While living in Sioux Falls, Gould was an active volunteer with the Sioux Falls YWCA Girls on the Run program, with the United Way, the Ronald McDonald House and Sioux Falls Big Brother/Big Sister programs. She also served on the transportation committee of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce.
She is a graduate of Jamestown College and attended The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She was recently honored as a 2011 nominee for the YWCA of Sioux Falls Tribute to Women Award for her exemplary contribution in the workplace and community.
AARP North Dakota is currently engaged in several state and national issues important to North Dakotans 50 and older and their families. State issues include implementation of the federal health care law in North Dakota and a number of legislative interim studies just underway. Federal issues include protecting Medicare and Social Security from unfair cuts.
