In Sioux Falls, volunteers are living up to their chosen theme “People Helping People – Kindness with a Purpose.” One of their first acts of kindness was to deliver 60 pounds of food to the local food bank and a few clothing items to a local shelter.

In another effort to help those in the community struggling to put food on the table, the group will volunteer at The Banquet, a local organization providing meals for those in need. A donation will also be made to cover the cost of the meal. The group is also expecting to make a donation to Lunch is Served, a local organization which prepares sack lunches for day laborers.

Rapid City volunteers are taking a multi-generational approach to their service through 2011 with their first efforts concentrating on early childhood. With their a portion of their Create The Good grant from AARP South Dakota, the group presented “Starting Strong,” a program of assistance to families with day care needs with $500.

Their donation stretched even further when it was matched by the John T. Vucurevich Foundation. Additional donations will be made to: “Working Against Violence Incorporated” to assist with baby clothing needs; “Rapid City Library Children’s Outreach program” to provide books for book bags used during children’s events; and the “Literacy Network” to purchase books to be sued for reading to children and for awards for children’s activities at local event.
