More than 23,700 people were helped by AARP Nevada’s volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service in 2010. Nationwide, AARP volunteers assisted 2.9 million American taxpayers. This year, , which is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax counseling and preparation service, is . Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are welcome; you do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to volunteer.How the Volunteer Program Works br
Tax counselors receive free tax preparation training. Volunteers should be computer literate; since most AARP Tax Aide sites provide e-filing for faster tax returns. While it is helpful if you have some experience in tax preparation (even in doing your own taxes); it is not absolutely necessary. We ask our volunteers to provide four to six hours per week from the first week in February until April 15 if at all possible.We also have openings for volunteers who are not comfortable preparing taxes but want to assist with reservations and completing various intake forms.
