We hope you will volunteer with The Holiday Project. The new friendships you make will enrich your life and your experience of a holiday will be transformed.

AARP Virginia selected The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area as a Create The Good featured project for 2011. The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area is a non-profit organization that organizes volunteers to visit with people in nursing homes, hospitals and other settings during holidays in Virginia, Washington, DC and Maryland. Many of the people who receive visits have no other holiday visitors.
Through this project, AARP Virginia and The Holiday Project of the National Capital Area will organize volunteer teams that will visit selected residents in Fredericksburg area nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Teams are led by "visit hosts" – volunteers who enjoy organizing and facilitating others’ volunteer experience. The tasks are minimal and can be accomplished in just a few hours. “The Holiday Project was able to expand to Fredericksburg in 2005 when my wife and I moved here from Alexandria,” said Bobby Anderson, a volunteer from Fredericksburg. “For the past six years, we have organized volunteer visits on Christmas Day, but we have only gone to one facility. We know there are many more people who would benefit from our activities and we are looking forward to AARP’s assistance in helping us enroll enough volunteers to serve as Team Leaders so we can expand to other facilities and even more holidays.”
Individuals interested in serving as team leaders or volunteers can contact The Holiday Project via email at or call 703-370-0370.
