The library’s programs are designed to enhance connections among senior citizens and youth in the community. By bringing adult audiences together for programs and events that include reading, viewing, reflection, discussion and civic engagement initiatives, public libraries receiving grants will enhance the quality of life and learning in their community,
Building Common Ground programs to be held later in 2012 include special gaming events for young adults and senior citizens, an art show open to young adults and senior citizens on the program themes of community, civility, and compassion and a service fair.
The first series begins with a three-session discussion of the book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by British scholar and author . Each event is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the library auditorium on the following dates:

Sunday, May 20

City Library Partners with AARP Chapter
Beginning Spring 2012, University City Public Library, in partnership with University City/Clayton AARP Chapter #4048, will present a series of programs titled . The goal of the project is to engage the public in contemplation and discussion of the importance of community, civility and compassion in their daily lives. The library is one of only 30 libraries nationally to be awarded this grant from the (ALA) Public Programs Office and the Fetzer Institute.The library’s programs are designed to enhance connections among senior citizens and youth in the community.
