Volunteers Get Ready for a Spectacular Summer Ahead

AARP Ohio volunteers got their hands dirty in April, building a dozen raised garden plots in Cincinnati's College Hill neighborhood, where they will be growing vegetables to share. We're doing the same in Dayton, where raised beds will allow "giving gardens" to be tended by seniors in wheelchairs or with limited mobility.

The fresh produce generated from the many “giving gardens” will be donated to feed seniors in those same neighborhoods, through partnerships with local organizations that provide home-delivered meals.

As the gardens take shape, and fresh produce is harvested and delivered, be sure to check back to see photos of volunteers in action on the AARP Ohio state web page and our page.

From May through August 12, AARP members can get discounts to see the "A Day in Pompeii" exhibit at the . For $16.50 members receive admission and an audio guide—a savings of up to $7. Learn more at the museum's .

Last summer's AARP night with the Mud Hens was such a success that we're not only back at the ballpark in Toledo on August 2, but we've added games on July 24 with the Akron Aeros, August 16 with the Columbus Clippers and August 28 with the Dayton Dragons. We'll post details about how to get discounted tickets as soon as those tickets become available so you can meet other AARP members at the game.

There is no doubt about it, about the future of Social Security and Medicare and AARP volunteers are determined to give you the chance to have your say. We launched our listening tour in March and to date volunteers have scheduled 44 listening sessions this summer in libraries, churches and community and senior centers across the state.

We're planning a tele-town hall in June to hear your thoughts about how to ensure that current and future generations receive the benefits they have earned. On July 25-29 our You've Earned a Say van will be posted on the Midway at the Ohio State Fair so you can have your say. You can and add your comments any time.
