AARP Indiana is committed to enhancing the quality of life for all as we age. We champion positive social change and deliver value through advocacy, information and service. And, we are looking for a new volunteer leader to serve as our next State President.

Are you a dedicated and driven 50+ Hoosier? And, an AARP member? If so, please consider applying for this unique and exciting volunteer opportunity.

Our State President strives to position AARP in the state to achieve the AARP vision, mission and strategic priorities by working with the AARP Indiana State Director, staff, Executive Council (small group of statewide AARP Indiana volunteer leaders) and volunteers all over the state. The State President also serves as the as the principal AARP volunteer spokesperson in the state, helps develop the framework for state strategic planning and coordination of AARP activities, and assists with building networks and community partnerships across the state with other organizations and key decision makers to further AARP goals.

Because of the leadership role associated with this position, it requires a significant time commitment. The State President serves for a two-year term, with the option by supervisor to renew twice, not to exceed six years. Once appointed, the day-to-day duties of being State President also entail substantial time and energy output. Week to week there can be a wide variation in the amount of time a State President spends with AARP, based on workflow and the interest and new opportunities he or she (in partnership with the State Director) identifies.

Additional opportunities for the State President include representing Indiana at national meetings and conferences, as well as representing AARP on various statewide taskforces and commissions. The State President also attends AARP events across the state to speak, provide support and interact with members and the 50+ population generally. The active involvement of the state president is vital to the success of AARP in Indiana.

If interested in applying to be our next State President, please complete and return the application form by Sept. 7, 2012. Detailed instructions can be found on the form.
