Science editor David Perlman is still making headlines at 90

It’s hard to find a newspaper that hasn’t drastically cut staff these days. But David Perlman, 90, science editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, refuses to slow down or even take a buyout. “Sure, it saddens me to see the demise of the dailies. There are people like me who want to sit down over morning coffee and hold and read a newspaper,” says Perlman, who joined the Chronicle in 1940. “Besides, you can’t carry a desktop [computer] to the bathroom.” Science became his beat in 1957. “With every article I learn something new,” he says. Perlman’s passion for pursuing news hasn’t diminished.
