Some 300 voters turned out in late September to hear Brian Dubie and Peter Shumlin address issues important to older Vermonters and all residents. Thousands more tuned in via VPT to view the first televised debate between the two leading gubernatorial candidates.

Moderated by Steve Delaney, a longtime journalist most recently with Vermont Public Radio, the forum in South Burlington posed questions on transportation, health care, state budget challenges and a host of other issues important to Vermonters. “We are committed to educating our members and all voters before they head to the polls this November,” said Greg Marchildon, AARP Vermont State Director. “We feel it’s important to get these candidates on record with their views on critical issues in this state and this televised candidate forum was a great way to do that.”

Candidates took questions from the moderator for the first half of the event and then addressed questions from member of the audience. While there was agreement and common ground on certain issues, the candidates clearly had different approaches to addressing health care affordability and access, balancing the state budget and tax policy.

AARP Vermont has produced that detail the views of the candidates for Governor as well as those of the candidates for US Congress and Senate. You simply enter your zip code to access the document.
