Survey Findings to Help Refine 2011 AARP Legislative Priorities

Just as the state’s newly elected leaders are preparing for the 2011 Iowa General Assembly, AARP is working on refining its list of legislative priorities for the next legislative session.

Each December, AARP Iowa sets its state legislative priorities for the upcoming year consistent with policies adopted by our national, all-volunteer member Board of Directors. The priorities are set based on the needs of Iowans as expressed at AARP forums and events throughout the year, and in surveys of members and older Iowans 50+.

As AARP begins to refine its list for 2011, Iowa members are invited to make their voices heard by completing the AARP Iowa 2010 Voice of the Member E-Issues Survey. If you have already received and completed the survey as a result of an email you received earlier this month, thank you for your participation. If not, we hope you will take a minute to .

The results of this E-Issues survey will be combined with findings from AARP outreach and events and with a survey AARP commissioned earlier this fall to learn how older Iowa voters were thinking about and prioritizing issues as they prepared to vote.

That survey asked likely Iowa voters to recommend whether the state should increase, decrease or maintain funding for eight areas of serviced in the 2011 Iowa state budget – transportation, education, post-secondary education, health care for the uninsured, natural resources, public safety, local government aide for municipal supports, and long-term care services.

AARP’s positions and policies are developed to serve the interests of our members, their families and society as a whole. At AARP we represent those 50+, including our members, and focus on the issues. We believe there are no permanent friends or enemies, just enduring interests. We do not support, oppose or give money to any candidates or political parties.
