Probe Candidates for the Answers

AARP wants to help its members focus federal and state candidates' attention on issues that will affect older Americans. To this end, AARP is providing members with voters' guides so they can find out where candidates stand on key issues such as and access to doctors. AARP is also providing members with tools to use to encourage candidates to identify real solutions. For example, 39 million older Americans depend on to ensure that they have access to physicians. Congress has postponed a scheduled 21 percent pay cut for Medicare doctors, but the longer-term challenges and threat of future cuts remain. AARP urges Congress to institute a policy that stabilizes pay for doctors and rewards those who provide the highest-quality care. It's important to ask candidates questions such as: What will you do to fix the system to prevent future cuts in doctor reimbursement rates? AARP members represent the demographic group most likely to turn out in any election, says AARP Executive Vice President Nancy LeaMond. "Our members are especially focused on Social Security, Medicare fraud and ensuring that their doctors continue to take Medicare patients." Go to for more information.
