AARP Pre-Debate Surveys - 2004 Election
During September and October 2004, AARP is conducting a series of three national random telephone surveys of registered voters, ages 50 and over, shortly before the three scheduled debates between President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry and the single scheduled debate between Vice President Dick Cheney and Senator John Edwards. Four separate state-level surveys of registered voters, ages 50 and over, are being conducted in each of the three states – Florida, Missouri and Arizona – in which the presidential debates take place, and in Ohio in which the vice presidential debate takes place. These seven are the first known surveys of their kind to focus solely on the opinions of midlife and older voters during a presidential campaign. In addition to covering election issues important to age 50+ voters and issues that may affect their voting decisions, the surveys sought to learn more about how they feel about broader foreign policy and domestic issues affecting the nation. As a non-partisan organization, AARP does not contribute to political campaigns nor does it endorse any candidates for public office. It is, however, a sponsor of all four debates.
