“The cost of heating homes in Fairbanks is so high in winter,” Lee said. “By bringing the experts and resources under one roof, it will be a one stop shop for how people can save money this winter.”

After months of planning, the end result is the first Energy Assistance Forum in Fairbanks scheduled for Dec. 13, 3-6 pm in the Westmark Hotel Gold Room, 813 Noble Street.

According to Lee, the Energy Assistance Forum will be a one-stop shop to discover what financial assistance and local resources are available for those who live in Interior Alaska.

Susan Marshall, Coordinator of the state of Alaska’s Heating Assistance Program is one of three presenters. Marshall will provide an overview of the type of financial assistance available to Alaskans.

“It is tough heating a home in Fairbanks,” said Marshall. “Our office is here to provide as much assistance as we can. As a former Fairbanksan, I understand how cold it can get here.”

Marshall’s presentation will be:“Qualifying for Heating Assistance.”

Jim McCall, Officer, Housing Relations, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, will present an overview of the various energy programs available within AHFC today. Kate Stone from the Fairbanks Resource Agency will discuss what senior social services are available at FRA.

Marshall, McCall and Stone will have resources available, make presentations as well as answer questions from the audience.
