AARP is the leading organization that advocates on behalf of older Oklahomans at the state and federal levels. We are a non-profit, non-partisan association that is your personal advocate on issues important to you.
Whether it’s monitoring interim studies that are held during the months the legislature does not meet, working with lawmakers to craft legislation that will protect seniors or stopping proposals that are harmful to older Oklahomans, AARP works year round on advocacy issues.
A key component of our advocacy work is the involvement of our members. You can lend your expertise and knowledge by and becoming a volunteer. Chances are you have as much to offer as you would gain from this type of exchange.
Whether attending a committee meeting, sending an e-mail to legislators or making a phone call, volunteer engagement is an essential part of AARP’s advocacy work.
AARP advocacy volunteers become part of our 770 Team – an effort to have at least 10 volunteers in each of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. When you become a 770 Team member, you’ll receive regular updates as issues develop and bills move through the legislative process, participate in conference calls and trainings and attend AARP’s annual legislative breakfast at the State Capitol.
It’s important work that’s also fun. You’ll have the chance to meet new people from across the state, to exchange ideas and find fresh perspectives.
