The Oklahoma Aging Partnership (OAP), a non-partisan coalition between AARP Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Alliance on Aging, the Oklahoma Silver Haired Legislature Alumni Association and the Oklahoma State Council on Aging, has released its fifth annual legislative report on aging issues.

The report gives details on three long-term care priorities backed by OAP that were signed into law by Governor Brad Henry. Those bills include creation of a Silver Alert System for missing seniors, the establishment of an Aging and Disability Resource Consortium and the creation of a consumer guide to assist individuals and families in understanding the services provided by assisted living center and in comparing and selecting a facility.

Also detailed in the report are four bills blocked by the OAP that would have been detrimental to older Oklahomans.

Lawmakers were notified in advance which bills would be included in the report.

“OAP is pleased to speak in a unified voice about these key issues,” said AARP Oklahoma State President Marjorie Lyons. “The report highlights legislation that we as a group feel will add protection for and enhance the lives of older Oklahomans.”
