Affordable Care Act Works in Missouri

Since enactment of the Affordable Care Act on March 23, 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $47 million in new grant funding in Missouri. The new legislation has helped many residents and employers take more control of their health care – from new patients to new coverage options. Statistics to date:47,164 Medicare Part D “Doughnut Hole” Rebate Checks have been issued to benificiaries. The tax-free $250 rebate helps pay for prescriptions in the coverage gap.
101 uninsured Missouri residents have enrolled in the pre-existing condition insurance plan.

Nearly $672,000 has supported a consumer asistance program.

$1 million has been issued to crack down on unreasonable insurance premium increases.

$1 million has been granted to plan for a Health Insurance Exchange.

118 employers have enrolled in the Early Retirement Reinsurance Program.

$7,721,475 has supported the Therapeutic Discovery Project Program Tax Credits and Grants.

Other grants for Missouri include:
$1 million for demonstration projects to address health professions workforce needs
$1.6 million for Tribal, Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Programs
$400,000 for Medicare improvements for patients and providers
$300,000 to strengthen public health infrastruture to improve health outcomes
$300,000 to build epidemiology, laboratory, and health information systems capacity
$3 million to implement the National Background Check Program for long term care workers
$5.7 million for the Primary Care Residency Expansion Program
$24.3 million to support capital development in health centers
