“This was such a great opportunity for people of all ages to make their voices heard on these critical programs,” said AARP Maine State Director, Lori Parham. “Mainers of all ages came out to talk with us about their concerns and to complete their You’ve Earned a Say questionnaires. In just three days we were able to reach a lot of people.”

Footage of the event was covered by several media outlets including out of Portland and Bangor and out of Bangor.

On Oct. 4, AARP Maine was also a sponsor of the Maine Women’s Policy Center’s senatorial debate held at USM featuring five of the candidates for the US Senate seat. The lively discussion was moderated by Anne Schink of ABS consulting and focused on a wide range of issues including health care and economic security.

Across the country, AARP is taking the debate about the future of Medicare and Social Security out from behind closed doors in Washington and bringing it into the hands of Americans everywhere with the You’ve Earned a Say tour. In addition to the tour, State Director Parham will be spending several days in the county hosting You’ve Earned a Say voter education forums co-sponsored by the Aroostook County on Aging. Participants will have a chance to hear about AARP’s 2012 which feature candidate responses to AARP’s questions on health and financial security as well as some of the options to protect Social Security and Medicare in the future.
