The seasoned political activist announced her candidacy Monday

It seems Miranda Hobbes isn't quite satisfied with that house in Brooklyn. She is looking upstate to the governor's mansion in Albany. Cynthia Nixon, 51, one of four lead players on the long-running HBO series Sex and the City, is running for governor of New York — really. Rumors about a possible Democratic primary challenge to Gov. Andrew Cuomo have been circulating in New York over the past year, fueled by Nixon's visible political activism. According to local news outlet NY1, Nixon had begun laying the groundwork, hiring Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers, who worked on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's successful campaign. She made her candidacy official Monday, her intention to run along with a campaign ad. Nixon has starred in television and feature films as well as a number of Broadway shows since Sex and the City concluded in 2004. She supports a number of progressive causes, including same-sex marriage and increased funding for New York City's public schools. Nixon had been rumored to be interested in the governor’s mansion for some time. Earlier this month, her spokesperson acknowledged the possibility and swelling interest around a campaign in a statement: "Many concerned New Yorkers have been encouraging Cynthia to run for office, and as she has said previously, she will continue to explore it. If and when such a decision is made, Cynthia will be sure to make her plans public." With her Twitter announcement, its official.
