Project Fabulous

Tim Gunn, 60, declared the Versace dress worn by his Project Runway cohost, Heidi Klum, 40, a winner. Some red carpet watchers referred to the gown's color as purple. Gunn declared the hue "pomegranate."

Mr and Mrs Fox

Michael J. Fox, 52, returns to prime time this season with The Michael J. Fox Show. Betsy Brandt (Breaking Bad) plays his wife. The actor's real-life wife of 25 years, Tracy Pollan, 53, will appear on the show, too — in a guest spot as his sexy next-door neighbor.

Twice as Nice

This season Alfre Woodard, 60 (far left), joins the cast of the FX series American Horror Story. Laura Dern, 46, earned a best actress nomination for her starring role in the now-canceled HBO series Enlightened.

A Winning V P

On HBO's Veep, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 52, the night's Emmy winner for best actress in a comedy, wears power suits and dresses worthy of a female vice president of the U.S. At the Emmys the actress got to go glam and strapless.

Colbert Reports

Stephen Colbert (the real person, not The Colbert Report host) appears with his wife, Evelyn McGee-Colbert. The 49-year-old funnyman's faux news variety show faced off against The Daily Show and four other strong contenders — and it won!

Friendly Rivals

Nominated for playing the flamboyant pianist Liberace in the HBO movie Behind the Candelabra, Michael Douglas, 68, walked the red carpet with his costar — and fellow nominee in the same category! — Matt Damon, 42, and Damon's wife, Luciana Barroso. (P.S. Douglas won.)

American Beauty

Fashion watchers ribbed Jessica Lange, 64 — a lead actress nominee for FX's American Horror Story — because her Emmy dress was recently worn by Jane Fonda on the HBO series The Newsroom. No matter, both wore it well.

The Sky s the Limit

As Breaking Bad's Skyler White, the suffering wife of chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin Walter White, Anna Gunn, 45, wears mom-wear. On Emmy night, she not only dressed-up in a stunning Romona Keveza gown, but also won the Emmy for best supporting actress in a drama series.

A Well-Dressed Man

On AMC’s Mad Men, Christopher Stanley, 53, plays Henry Francis, second husband of Don Draper’s ex-wife, Betty. At the Emmys, he played debonaire.

Funny Ladies

Former Saturday Night Live mates and continued gal pals onscreen and off, Amy Poehler, 42 (far left), and Tina Fey, 43, were crowd and critic pleasers as cohosts of the Golden Globes earlier this year. Will the pair host again? They told reporters they'd be discussing the matter at the Emmys.

Looking Sharp

Glee's fearsome, sharp-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester earned Jane Lynch, 53, a best supporting actress nomination — and a spot in the award show's opening act.

Smart Casting

Playing Sigourney Weaver's mom in USA's Political Animals earned Ellen Burstyn, 80, an outstanding supporting actress Emmy. Her thanks went to series creator Greg Berlanti for having "the wisdom to write a woman over 65 who still had a lot of juice."

The New Chief

Blair Underwood, 49, always looks movie star sharp. He stars in the NBC remake of Ironside, the TV classic that starred Raymond Burr as Robert T. Ironside, a wheelchair-bound chief of detectives.

Who Is That Bearded Man

Believe it or not, it's Mad Men's Don Draper, otherwise known as actor Jon Hamm, 42 (with his longtime love, actress Jennifer Westfeldt). Why is the usually dapper Hamm so hairy? "This is a year of laziness," he told USA Today.

One Hot Momma

Allison Janney, 53, who stars in the new CBS sitcom Mom, looked anything but matronly in a leg-baring Lorena Sarbu gown. Janney and her TV daughter, Anna Faris, served as Emmy presenters.

Best Dressed

Kerry Washington's Scandal is must-see TV for many grownups. The Marchesa-clad 36-year-old — named the best-dressed woman of 2013 by People magazine — was nominated as a lead actress and teamed as a presenter with the ever-stunning Diahann Carroll. (See the next slide.)

Passing the Torch

When Diahann Carroll, 78, took the stage with Kerry Washington, the website Gawker tweeted to viewers who'd never heard of the veteran TV star or her groundbreaking series, Julia: "For those frantically Googling, the woman you want to be when you grow up is named Diahann Carroll."

Breaking Good

Nominated for best actor in a drama, Bryan Cranston, 57 (pointing), lost to Jeff Daniels, 58, of The Newsroom. (Thank you, Jeff, for the AARP shout-out in your acceptance speech!) Supporting actor nominee Aaron Paul, 34, lost too. But their show, Breaking Bad, triumphed for best drama.
