AARP Joins the Essence Festival

New Life Reimagined program is focus of outreach

AARP's , a first-of-its-kind program offering online and offline experiences to guide participants through life transitions and help them discover new possibilities, will be the focus of AARP's booth on the convention floor during three days of music, speakers and workshops at the in July 4-7. The Life Reimagined program was launched this spring. Look for ARP's booth on the convention floor during the Essence Festival in New Orleans July 4-7. "We want to reach out to multicultural communities because reimagining life after a meaningful transition should be an option available to everyone," says Edna Kane-Williams, AARP's vice president in multicultural marketing and engagements. There's no better place to do so than at the Essence Festival, where 400,000 are expected. Festival attendees will have the chance to meet one of AARP's Life Reimagined consultants, Janet Taylor, M.D., a self-help expert and psychiatrist in New York, who will lead AARP's daily workshops on reinvention with radio personality . Additional dignitaries will include Linda Bridgforth, Dr. Ian Smith, Donna Richardson, and Jamie Foster Brown, who will discuss topics ranging from financial and physical fitness to entrepreneurship and health and wellness.

Essence Music Festival Highlights

Festivalgoers will also be offered help navigating quizzes to help determine their passion, and learn about the inspiring stories of others who have remade their lives and changed careers or moved to new environments. This hugely popular annual gathering, says Kane-Williams, "is really an iconic event for the African American community." That's why it's such an important outreach opportunity for Life Reimagined, she adds, at a time when "African Americans are particularly stressed by the current economic times, and especially in need of creative solutions for living their best lives."
