Directors: Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman According to recent news reports, the two grown children of the subject of the new biopic Lovelace were "grateful" for the making of the film, as it reveals to the world a side of their mother many wouldn't otherwise have known. Directors and () do a neat job of presenting tandem portraits of the star of the 1972 porn flick : the ambitious, un-self-conscious master of fellatio , and the manipulated and abused girl-next-door Linda Susan Boreman. Their storytelling approach along with some brilliant casting, including (recently terrific as Cosette in ) as the vulnerable and dominated Lovelace/Boreman, make this small film a surprisingly compelling drama. Soon the Svengali-like Traynor, played by the extremely talented (known for his critically acclaimed performance in ), envisions Boreman as a ticket to fortune in the underworld he occupies, hustling her to New York to meet his Mob-linked pals, including porn director ( and Butchie Peraino (). It's a dangerous place to be, but Boreman doesn't know any better than to go along with the making of her Linda Lovelace alter ego and the filming of Deep Throat.
