Celebrity Milestone Birthdays in November

Don Cheadle Diana Krall and Danny DeVito all celebrating big birthdays

November 3

Adam Ant, 60: The baroquely costumed punk/glam British singer was a sexy sensation in the ’80s. Diagnosed as bipolar, he’s now in comeback mode, though it’s shaky: He made headlines in April for ranting about his two divorces during a concert in England.

November 8

Rickie Lee Jones, 60: The “Chuck E.’s in Love” singer came out with an album of covers in 2012 called The Devil You Know (songs include “Sympathy for the Devil”). These days she lives in New Orleans, performing there with Bruce Springsteen at the Jazz Fest in May.

November 11

Calista Flockhart, 50: She’s kept her career on a low simmer since marrying Harrison Ford in 2010 (her last big role, on Brothers & Sisters, ended in 2011). She’s a doting mom to their son, Liam, whom Flockhart adopted some 14 years ago.

November 13

Chris Noth, 60: He was the elusive Mr. Big on Sex and the City, then politician Peter Florrick on The Good Wife. Noth, who’s said he’s a wee bit tired of being called “Big” by every passerby, has a son named Orion with wife Tara Wilson.

November 14

Condoleezza Rice, 60: With the NFL’s recent problems, some observers have wondered whether Rice, a Stanford professor, might become commissioner. The former secretary of state is a major football fan who’s said the position would be a dream job.

November 14

Yanni, 60: The Greek instrumental musician known for his New Age sound has shaved off his thick trademark mustache (an improvement, yes?). And he’s released a new album, Inspirato, in collaboration with Placido Domingo.

November 14

Joseph Simmons, aka Rev Run, aka DJ Run, 50: The hip-hop star of Run-D.M.C. fame is now an ordained Pentecostal minister known as Rev Run. He and his wife, Justine, became grandparents this year; they host a Cooking Channel show, Rev Run’s Sunday Suppers, in their New Jersey home.

November 16

Dwight Gooden, 50: Former MLB All-Star “Dr. K” thrilled Yankees fans when he threw a no-hitter in 1996. But he’s had some tough times since retiring in 2001, including drug abuse and a 2010 DWI arrest after he was stopped with his 5-year-old son in the car.

November 16

Diana Krall, 50: The Grammy-winning jazz singer has a new forthcoming album, Wallflower, with her rendition of classics such as “Desperado” and “California Dreaming.” Married to fellow musician Elvis Costello, Krall kicks off a world tour in early 2015.

November 17

Danny DeVito, 70: The short and stocky comic actor has been on the production side of the film biz lately, though he and Arnold Schwarzenegger have plans to reprise their 1988 Twins roles in an upcoming sequel with Eddie Murphy. It’s to be called Triplets.

November 17

Lauren Hutton, 70: The unconventionally beautiful model/actress, who posed nude for Big magazine at age 61, is a rarity in her business for lacking “vanity … pretense and fear,” as Harper’s Bazaar recently put it. “I became a model to see the world,” Hutton has said.

November 21

Earl Monroe, 70: Earl the Pearl, the basketball legend with the New York Knicks and Baltimore Bullets, was famous for his dazzlingly unpredictable improv style on the court. He came out with an autobiography last year, Earl the Pearl: My Story.

November 29

Don Cheadle, 50: The actor has been absorbed in producing, directing and starring in a long-simmering film about musician Miles Davis, Miles Ahead. Cheadle won a Golden Globe last year for his role as a slick business consultant on Showtime’s House of Lies.

November 29

Joel Coen, 60: This Coen is the older half of the legendary and inseparable directing duo — the one married to actress Frances McDormand. He’s now working on a comedy about 1950s Hollywood, Hail Caesar! with brother Ethan.
