Julie Andrews, 80: The star of The Sound of Music was feted in Hollywood this year as the film turned the Big 5-Oh. She’s now set to direct a Sydney production of My Fair Lady — the show she starred in on Broadway in 1956.

Don McLean, 70: His 1971 hit “American Pie” “changed my life,” he said a few months ago — soon after selling his original handwritten lyrics at auction for $1.2 million. But the music hasn’t died: McLean’s on tour in Europe this fall.

Yo-Yo Ma, 60: The esteemed cellist has won 17 Grammys, not to mention countless other awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His new classical album, recorded with pianist Kathryn Stott, is Songs From the Arc of Life.

Angela Lansbury, 90: The actress who played sleuth Jessica Fletcher in TV’s Murder She Wrote won an Olivier Award this year for her role in the London stage production Blithe Spirit. She said she’s “feeling like a million dollars.”

John Lithgow, 70: His long career has been jam-packed with projects on Broadway, TV and the big screen. He’s had lots of supporting roles (Interstellar, Footloose), but is set to star as Winston Churchill in the upcoming Netflix series The Crown.

Jaclyn Smith, 70: The well-coiffed brunette (Kelly) on TV’s Charlie’s Angels, Smith launched her own clothing line for Kmart in 1985. While celebrating the line’s 30th anniversary this year, she said the key to her aging beautifully is “being loved.”

Jami Gertz, 50: Her early roles included semiclassic ’80s films such as Less Than Zero and The Lost Boys. More recently, she starred in the ABC comedy The Neighbors, about a family who lives in a community of quirky extraterrestrials.

Henry Winkler, 70: “Fonzie” on TV’s Happy Days stars in the British kids show Hank Zipzer (based on Winkler’s book series) and appears in the Adult Swim network’s Childrens Hospital. A few new generations of fans now think he’s cool. Aaaaaay!

Robert Caro, 80: He wrote The Power Broker, the awe-inspiring, Pulitzer-winning doorstop biography about New York urban planner Robert Moses. Caro’s fans now await the fifth and final volume of his opus on Lyndon Johnson.
