Barry Gibb, 70: “I never really did any disco dancing,” admits the only living member of the Bee Gees. (Brother Maurice died in 2003, and brother Robin in 2012.) Gibb, now the grandfather of seven, is tied with Lennon-McCartney as the songwriter with the most consecutive No. 1 hits (six).

September 2

Salma Hayek, 50: The Oscar-nominated actress (for Frida, 2002) believes good things are worth the wait: She had her first child at 41, married a French billionaire at 43 and executive-produced the sitcom Ugly Betty from 2006 to 2010. “There’s nothing better in life than being a late bloomer,” Hayek says. “Success can happen at any time and any age.”

September 9

Adam Sandler, 50: What happens when the goofball who was Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison hits the half-century mark? Savors his lifetime box office, we guess ($2.7 billion and counting). Last year’s animated horror-movie spoof, Hotel Transylvania 2, has been Sandler’s biggest hit yet, raking in $170 million. The final two titles in his current four-picture deal with Netflix are still to be announced.

September 14

Walter Koenig, 80: The brainy Chicagoan (Grinnell, UCLA) reprised his role as Russian-born navigator Pavel Chekov in seven Star Trek feature films. From 1994 to 1998, he also played underhanded “Psi Cop” Alfred Bester on Babylon 5. “Star Trek deserves the respect it has received,” Koenig recently told the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “If I’m going to be aligned with something, it might as well be something that makes a worthwhile statement.”

Tommy Lee Jones, 70: Al Gore’s Harvard roommate won an Oscar for doggedly pursuing Harrison Ford throughout The Fugitive (1993). More recently, he played Matt Damon’s CIA boss in the latest Jason Bourne spy thriller. Having made his film debut in Love Story back in 1970, Jones finally has his priorities straight: “The most important question in American cinema, I’ve learned, is ‘When is lunch?’”

James Lipton, 90: As chief interrogator to the stars on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio since 1994, Lipton has debriefed more than 200 showbiz insiders. In 2013, Parade asked him his own trademark interview-ending question: “If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive?” Lipton’s answer: “I want him to say, ‘You see, Jim, you were wrong. I exist. But you may come in anyway.’”

September 22

Debby Boone, 60: Pat Boone’s daughter became a singer herself and scored a giant hit with You Light Up My Life (from the otherwise-forgettable 1977 movie of the same name). The inspirational tune earned Boone a Grammy for best new artist. She has been married to Gabriel Ferrer — son of actor José Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney — for 37 years. The couple has four children.

September 26

Linda Hamilton, 60: The striking actress was a shaggy-haired milquetoast mom in 1984’s Terminator, then remade herself as a hard-body warrior (those biceps!) for the 1991 sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Hamilton also played a crusading Manhattan D.A. in the late-’80s TV series Beauty and the Beast. Her latest star turn has been in the sci-fi western Defiance.
