Bruce Dern, 80: He won kudos and an Oscar nomination as the boozy Woody Grant in the 2013 film Nebraska, one of his many memorable roles. He’s explained that he likes to add little improvisations — he calls them “Dernsies” — to enliven his characters.

Kenny G, 60: The curly-haired smooth-jazz saxophonist is the king of easy-listening, adult-contemporary music. He’s huge — including in China, where his song “Going Home” is played daily in schools, stores, libraries, gyms, etc., to mark closing time.

Bjorn Borg, 60: The long-haired Swede was one of the world’s top tennis players, winning Grand Slam titles through the 1970s before retiring at 26. He still loves the sport, he said recently, calling it “the most beautiful thing in the world.”

Julianna Marguiles, 50: The New York actress is fresh off her Emmy-winning role as powerful attorney Alicia Florrick on The Good Wife. In real life, Margulies is married to a lawyer, Keith Lieberthal, and has an 8-year-old son, Kieran.

Kris Kristofferson, 80: A 16-CD box set of his 1970s classics comes out this month to mark the actor-musician-activist’s big birthday. He also has a new double album, Cedar Creek Sessions, and stars in Traded, a new western set in 1880s Kansas.

John Cusack, 50: The actor is a natural at playing the underdog — most convincingly as Lloyd Dobler in 1989’s Say Anything. But sometimes he’s a hero: He’ll battle apocalyptic forces in the upcoming Stephen King thriller Cell.

Mel Brooks, 90: The comedian, producer, director, screenwriter and all-around Hollywood legend has been touring the country screening and discussing his classic 1974 film Blazing Saddles. He’s also working on a stage production of Young Frankenstein.
