The state was the only one to be listed in the survey's top 15 rankings for quality of life, quality of health care and cost. Unlike some similar surveys, the Caring.com rankings focus primarily on the medical and financial support seniors need as they grow older. Rounding out the top five are Iowa, South Carolina, Washington state and Nebraska. — Receive access to exclusive information, benefits and discounts The survey used statistics on nursing home costs, in-home care prices, senior living community reviews, elderly well-being assessments and other factors. Among the surveys it used to calculate the rankings was the by the AARP Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund, the SCAN Foundation and the AARP Public Policy Institute. “We want to use this research as a starting point for really important conversations between family members,” Caring.com Vice President Tim Sullivan said in a statement. “Too many people avoid thinking about senior care until it hits a crisis point.
