AARP Celebrates Pride in Local Communities

Local groups LGBTQ organizations participate in June parades and festivals

iStockphoto/Getty Images Seattle, St. Louis and other cities are celebrating LGBT pride month. Throughout June, AARP is joining with local LGBT organizations around the country to celebrate Pride Month through festivals, parades and spring walks. Highlights include riding a trolley in the Chicago Pride Parade on June 25 and, for the fifth year, sponsorship of the Boomertown section of the Twin Cities Pride Festival, one of the largest such gatherings in the nation. Boomertown is aimed at the 50-plus community and features nonprofits that advocate on aging issues and are active in the LGBT community. Here is a sampling of just a few of the Pride-related community activities: Chicago — AARP Illinois will participate in Pride events throughout the state, with the biggest gathering at the . Houston — The Pride Houston Festival will be held downtown on June 24. AARP Houston with information and fun prizes.
Manchester — AARP New Hampshire and the Greater Manchester Parks and Recreation Department invite AARP members and their guests to join their spring Walk for Your Health program. Nearly a dozen walks are .
Twin Cities — For the fifth year, AARP Minnesota will be sponsoring the of the park at the 2017 Twin Cities Pride Festival on June 24 and 25 in Loring Park in Minneapolis.
Seattle — AARP Day with the Seattle Mariners will be held June 28 at Safeco Field. AARP can purchase tickets at a discounted price.
Sioux Falls, S.D. — AARP in Sioux Falls will participate in the Pride Fest on June 17 and hold throughout June, July and August.
St. Louis — AARP in St. Louis is a sponsor of PrideFest 2017, being held June 23-25 in in downtown St. Louis.
In addition to listing the June activities, the offers content for the LGBT community year-round, including features on marital status and Medicare eligibility, estate planning and the most LGBT-friendly workplaces.
