Firefighters Make a Woman s 106th Birthday Extra Special

Milestone marked with a ride in a fire truck cake and dinner out

Crossroads Hospice Ada Garn’s 106th birthday dinner was extra special this year thanks to a group of Missouri firefighters. Firefighters had to help put out more than 100 candles burning inside a restaurant Tuesday night, but it was all in fun. They joined in to celebrate Ada Garn's birthday, and to help her blow out 106 candles. This year’s for the Missouri woman was extra special, because she has a terminal illness. When her hospice center, Crossroads Hospice and Palliative Care, learned she had a love for firefighters, as well as Texas Roadhouse, they started planning her party. Her birthday went a little like this: Garn got a knock at her door Tuesday, and there they were, members of the Raymore South Metro Fire District holding roses in their hands. They gave her some presents (a special firefighter hat and jacket) and invited her to dinner. She said yes! Being that she’s 106, the firefighters thought they’d drive their big red truck, but not before Garn asked to drive herself. She settled for sitting in the front seat. From there it was off to her favorite restaurant — Texas Roadhouse — to celebrate with dinner and cake (that read “Ada: Too Hot to Handle”). The firefighters lit 106 candles for her, sang “Happy Birthday” and helped her blow out the flames. Crossroads Hospice Ada Garn got to ride in a fire truck — and more — for her 106th birthday. How’s that for a birthday party? Happy Birthday, Ada!
