Caring for Yourself and Your Family Opinions & Experiences of Colorado Residents 50

(Full Report, PDF) Half of all people age 50+ in Colorado are or have been a caregiver. Most believe that funding to the Older Coloradoans Act should be increased. In Colorado, one in three people age 50 years and older have personally needed or had a family member who needed long-term care in the last five years. However, over half do not see themselves or family members as likely to need long-term care in the next five years. This “unlikelihood” is similar for both people age 50 to 64 years and people age 65+. While most people age 50+ in Colorado do not perceive the need for long-term care, four in five would prefer to receive such care at home. Four in five also believe that long-term care services that would allow them or a family member to stay at home are important. The AARP Colorado Long-Term Care Survey was conducted via telephone among 50+ year old residents in the State of Colorado. Precision Opinion completed 800 telephone interviews of Colorado residents age 50+ and an oversample of 150 Hispanic Colorado residents age 50+. The survey was approximately twelve minutes in length. The interviews were conducted in English by Precision Opinion from December 8 to December 19, 2012.
