Thousands of sites will accept dispose of old drugs

Getty Images April's Prescription Drug Take Back Day brought in more than 450 tons of unused prescription drugs to nearly 5,500 sites nationwide. April 28 is the 15th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an event designed to provide a safe and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs nationwide. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and various law enforcement and community agencies around the country organize the twice-a-year events. The , in October, brought in 456 tons of unused prescription drugs to more than 5,300 sites nationwide, the DEA reported. AARP Membership: "Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic,” acting DEA Administrator Chuck Rosenberg said after a take-back day in April 2017. “That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in — safely and anonymously — a record amount of prescription drugs.” The DEA provides an online tool to let you find the nearest drop-off site for unused drugs.
