Report Home The average price of a retail prescription in Michigan in 2000 was $45.91. This is 1.1 percent above the national average price of a retail prescription. Moreover, the average number of prescriptions in Michigan per capita is 11.8. The national average is 10.3. This is 15 percent above the national average number of prescriptions. Michiganders use more prescription drugs and pay more for the prescriptions they fill. AARP's mail survey of 1,254 Michigan members found that: More than nine in ten believe it is important for the state of Michigan to make prescription drugs more affordable.
Three in four support increasing funding for the Elderly Prescription Insurance Program.
Half report having a problem paying for prescription medications in the past year.
Over half of those surveyed pay $50 or more per month for out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses.
Two-thirds are concerned about being able to afford prescription drugs over the next two years.
