Report Home Most New York members of AARP buy prescription drugs, and many are concerned about how they will pay for them in the coming years. The vast majority support legislative proposals that would give them more information about the effectiveness and cost of the prescription drugs they buy, and that would lower the cost for themselves and for New Yorkers without prescription drug coverage. Of the 1,001 randomly selected AARP members in New York participating in this telephone survey... 93 percent say it is important for the state to provide access to information about the safety and effectiveness of prescription drugs 85 percent support legislation that would require drug manufacturers to report how much they spend on marketing 84 percent support a bill that would require the retail prices of prescription drugs to be posted on a website so consumers can comparison shop 83 percent support legislation that would allow the state to establish a bulk purchasing program for prescription drugs 80 percent support the state of New York adopting a preferred drug list Interviews were conducted from December 20 through 28, 2004, and the report was prepared by Erica Dinger of AARP Knowledge Management who may be contacted at 202-434-6176 for further information.
