Cameroon Radio Television is the Cameroonian public radio and television organization. Broadcasting began in Cameroon in 1940, after the opening by the French Government of the first radio station in Douala, Radio Douala, also known as the Child of the War and having for first transmitter a technico-graphic of 150 watts. This Radio was a means of propaganda of Free France. Then, a 1 kilowatt transmitter was installed in 1950 in order to increase its audience efficiency. 06 years later, this station came under the control of the Société de Radiodiffusion de la France d'Outre-mer, created to promote the production of programs by local populations. SORAFOM will be responsible for installing 02 radio transmitters of 1 kilowatt of medium waves and 4 kilowatt of short waves in Yaoundé and in other regions of the country. In July 1955, Radio Cameroon was officially born. Other public radio stations will be created a few years later: Radio Yaoundé, Radio Garoua. Between 1959 and 1961, a mobile radio transmitter will operate in Buea financed by the Nigerian Government. On April 14, 1962, SORAFOM became the Office for Radiophonic Cooperation, it was this structure which was to manage Radio Cameroon until 1963, when the Cameroonian Government took over the broadcasting system, with its headquarters in Yaoundé. This structure is introduced in the landscape of the Cameroonian Administration as the Directorate of National Broadcasting of Cameroon within the Ministry of Information and Culture. In addition to the 03 Stations existing at the time of Independence; others will be created in particular Radio Buéa, Radio Bertoua, Radio Bafoussam, Radio Bamenda, Radio Ngaoundéré, Radio Ebolowa and Radio Maroua.
