Calling All Athletes St Louis Senior Olympics in May

The , the regional competition for athletes aged 50 and older, is actively seeking applications for athletes to participate in more than 85 events over Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-29, 2012.

From basketball to bocce; soccer, softball and shuffleboard; to tap dancing, tennis and track – the Senior Olympics engage more than 1,000 athletes and hundreds of volunteers at fourteen different venues across the St. Louis area. The events are open to everyone, but athletes must be at least 50 years old; there is no maximum age limit.

“It’s truly a community-wide event that provides something meaningful for everyone who participates,” said Phil Ruben, director of the event. “We have serious competition, friendly games and performances. We have volunteer opportunities for all ages. And in the end, we have recognition, camaraderie and enduring friendships, all built around the spirit of this great event.”

The 2012 St. Louis Senior Olympics are presented by U.S. Bank and sponsored by AARP Missouri, Barnes Jewish Hospital, Express Scripts, Jewish Community Center (JCC), Missouri Baptist Hospital, Esse Health, and Centene Corporation. Additional support is provided by numerous area businesses and organizations.

In St. Louis, paper registrations are available at both JCC locations, select Schnucks stores, and all U.S. Bank locations. The deadline for early registration rates is April 14; final registration deadline is May 16.
