Nevada Program Serves Many, Saves Money
Nearly 30,000 Nevadans were helped by AARP Tax-Aide volunteers in 2010, and over 28,000 in 2009. In Nevada, 200+ volunteers work at over including senior centers, libraries and other community locations. Appointments are recommended at most sites.

Tax Service Created in Collaboration with IRS
AARP Tax-Aide all began with a chance discussion between an AARP executive and an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employee, both naval reservists. During a weekend drill, the IRS agent expressed concern to the AARP exec about older tax filers. The AARP exec asked whether the IRS could provide training if AARP recruited volunteers to help others file their taxes. And the rest is history.
Within a year, the AARP Board of Directors had reached a formal agreement with the IRS. The AARP Tax-Aide program was an immediate success and grew steadily as more volunteers got training and word of the free tax-preparation assistance service spread.
Today, AARP Tax-Aide works collaboratively with the IRS to save lower and middle income taxpayers’ money in communities throughout the country.

Since 1968, AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have helped nearly 50 million low- to moderate-income taxpayers of all ages nationwide. Tax-Aide volunteers are trained to assist in filing the 1040 tax form and Schedules A, B, C-EZ, D, and EIC. At no charge to the taxpayer, electronic filing (e-filing) is offered at , ensuring faster processing of tax refunds.
