Tax Assistance Available to Connecticut Residents 60
Here in Connecticut, more than 500 dedicated volunteers will assist people at facilities located throughout the state. Tax-Aide sites are operational from Feb. 1 through the middle of April. near you.
“With tax season fast approaching, many seniors will be looking for a helping hand to assist them in filing their taxes this year,” said AARP Connecticut volunteer Tax-Aide Coordinator, Dan Arnold. “For more than 40 years, the AARP Tax-Aide program has been training volunteers to provide this important service in our local communities. Volunteers are trained to help people with low and moderate incomes take advantage of the deductions and credits they are entitled to and save money.”
AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped nearly 30,000 Connecticut residents file their taxes in 2010. Over 90% of the tax returns were filed electronically, assuring that residents received their tax refunds quickly.
All AARP Tax-Aide volunteers have passed a competency test and are certified by the IRS every year. Learn more about the program.
If married, both husband and wife should be present during an income tax counseling session. Taxpayers must have available all information and documents that have been received that apply to their 2010 income taxes including:
Proof of identity (picture or other documentation)
All income statements that apply to the taxpayers
Social security number (Social Security Card or Benefit Statement-Form SSA-1099) for taxpayer and all dependents Copy of last year’s Federal and state tax returns
For direct deposit of refunds, you will need to bring a personal check (if available), with bank checking account & routing numbers
