Dustin McDaniel, Arkansas Attorney General, warned consumers to beware the interest rates charged by aggressively marketed "Rapid Refund" and "Instant Money" tax preparation companies. "In reality, RALs are not much faster than direct deposit from the IRS," according to McDaniel. Consumers are essentially paying extremely high interest rates to borrow their own money.
Shirley Matheny, AARP Arkansas Tax Aide State Coordinator, says AARP’s Tax-Aide program has a very high accuracy rate, so “When taxpayers use our free service, they get and keep for themselves all benefits allowed.”

Thousands of Arkansans Saved Money with AARP Tax Aide
AARP Arkansas volunteers are celebrating another successful Tax Aide season, and more than a thousand taxpayers are enjoying the money they saved by filing their state and/or federal income tax forms for free, with assistance from approximately 280 to 300 AARP Tax Aide volunteers. This year, 14,939 free state and federal income tax forms were filed from 36 sites statewide. AARP Tax Aide is the state's largest free tax counseling and assistance service.Business was particularly good at two new Tax Aide sites in Conway and in Fairfield Bay.
