Hernandez was instrumental in ensuring the producer contacted AARP to provide volunteers another avenue for giving back to the community.
AARP Tax-Aide is an AARP Foundation national program that offers free tax preparation services to low- and middle-income people, with a particular focus on people 50-plus. In Colorado, 520 Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 29,000 people last year, saving them about $3.2 million in tax preparation fees.
“To complete a return for a family that needs the money so badly and to tell them how much they are getting back is the most gratifying thing in the world,” McClean said. “The looks on their faces run from relief to pure elation. It just warms your heart.”
In Colorado, AARP Tax-Aide operates 51 sites and last year helped more than 25,000 taxpayers all at no cost preparing 18,000 Federal tax returns as well as a variety of Colorado state forms. AARP Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-run tax assistance program.

AARP Tax-Aide director Dan McClean and a handful of volunteers appeared on Denver’s KMGH-TV, Channel 7 four times during February and late March to take calls from viewers who had questions about filing taxes. AARP Tax-Aide is a program of the AARP Foundation. The volunteers took 394 calls during the live shows and referred 50 people to AARP Tax-Aide sites around the metro area.Tax-Aide Tips
