“It is becoming more and more common for my Unclaimed Property staff to help families, adult children, widows and caregivers through the claims process for older Missourians,” Zweifel said. “It is the goal of the Unclaimed Property Older Missourians Education Initiative to make it easier for Missourians to claim their property through increased awareness of the program and greater access to my staff. I have reached out to AARP because it is the major advocacy group for Missourians over 50, helping them maintain independence, understand their options and control their life decisions.”
Representing AARP Missouri at the news conference, State Director Craig Eichelman commented, “AARP is very supportive of the Unclaimed Property initiative that will benefit older Missourians and their families. Financial security for our older citizens, now more than ever, has become an important aspect of everyday living.” Eichelman added, “Knowing how to prevent property from becoming unclaimed, and securing unclaimed funds and other items, may contribute to their future wellbeing.”
To date, Zweifel currently holds nearly $700 million in Unclaimed Property for more than 4.3 million account holders. The average returned account is $300.
