AARP fraud fighters know the first step in protecting against scam artists is to recognize the pitches they make. And that is why Moldoff and a group of AARP volunteers are gearing up to take this message across the Granite State.
“While it seems that every time we figure out how to avoid one scam, con artists find another way to separate us from our money,” added Moldoff. “Even as scams change, the basic points are the same. Con artists will try to fool consumers into giving up their hard-earned money and consumers must stay on guard.”

“A recent survey of New Hampshire residents age 50 and over shows that nearly nine out of ten expressed the importance of protecting themselves against fraud,” concluded Moldoff. “The first step in curbing any type of fraudulent activity is education. Fraud is happening. The Federal Trade Commission reports nearly 25 million Americans are the victims of consumer fraud each year. “That doesn’t mean that those losing money to scammers are stupid or foolish,” said AARP New Hampshire volunteer and fraud fighter Harold Moldoff. “People just don’t have enough information to protect themselves. Crooks and scammers often prey upon people who are educated, have good incomes and are socially active in their communities.
