YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Travel The London West Hollywood Inside LA’ s celebrity hotspot By You Magazine - October 19, 2019 On the doorstep of the famous Sunset Strip, spotting A-listers is practically part of the accommodation deal for guests at The London, West Hollywood. The stunning high-rise hotel is known as a celebrity favourite having hosted everyone from Oprah and Samuel L. Jackson through to Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber. And while that may have a lot to do with its excellent facilities (more on this later) and luxury interior, the hotel’s prime location is certainly a highlight. The London West Hollywood Built in the heart of West Hollywood, otherwise known as LA’s VIP playground, The London is surrounded by iconic bars, restaurants and nightclubs. We’re talking instantly recognisable places like the Roxy Theatre, a historic rock’n’roll venue that first opened in 1973 with a sold-out show by Grammy-award winning legend Neil Young, The Viper Room and even modern hotspots like 1oak and Nightingale. Getty Images It is also a short walk from the eminent Sunset Tower hotel, which is yet another go-to for the stars who regularly dine at the hotel’s Tower Bar and Restaurant. Acting as a cozy rendezvous inspired by early Hollywood, dining here is a real experience as guests are instantly met with an elegant atmosphere and a hint of romance courtesy of the intimate, candle-lit tables. The food is just as impressive in presentation as it is in taste, which is especially proven by the seafood platter appetizer, shared between two. However, don’t expect a purse-friendly bill – after all, you’ll be dining among the rich and famous. If that wasn’t enough, The London is a six minute drive from the eclectic LGBTQ+ friendly Santa Monica Boulevard, where there’s endless fun to be had – including dinner at the vibrant Conservatory, a trendy open-air restaurant with delicious LA-style cuisine. There is, of course, also the West Hollywood Design District and Melrose Avenue, where you can shop your favourite high end labels and feel like a true LA resident. The London West Hollywood Obviously, there is much more to The London than its ideal location. More than anything, it oozes tasteful glamour and exclusivity – a reality that becomes immediately apparent when you step into the newly renovated hotel’s glitzy lobby. Here, you’ll find a bright, spacious reception area decked with marble floors, turquoise velvet sofas and a modern fire pit. It will then quickly become apparent that The London combines prim and proper British style and character with a laid-back California vibe, which surprisingly, compliment each other to form an excellent hybrid courtesy of late London-based interior designer, David Collins. The London West Hollywood Known to have the most generously sized suites in LA, each of the 200 rooms come complete with either a king-sized bed or a double, a lounge area, a mini kitchen and a terrace as well as a giant wow-worthy bathroom by Waterworks. Like the lobby, the colour-scheme is made up of gold, cream, brown and turquoise shades keeping the elegant tone consistent. The London West Hollywood For those willing to splurge, The London is also home to the largest penthouse suite in LA. It is often referred to as ‘a villa in the sky’ and that’s no exaggeration – it is enormous. Designed by British fashion hero Vivienne Westwood, the two-story, 11,000-square-foot suite is made up of a Grand Salon, a dining room that overlooks Beverly Hills, a modern kitchen with private service entrance, atriums and a waterfall (yes, really) as well as two bedrooms and a luxe bathroom. But it doesn’t stop there – it also comes with a private rooftop area where you’ll find an outdoor kitchen, rooftop shower, dining area, fireplace and a lounge space with 360-degree views of the city. Frankly, you may not ever want to leave once you’ve checked in. The London West Hollywood But on the outside, the hotel is quite the contrast to lavish. Its white exterior blends in with the rest of the apartment blocks in the area, which may perhaps be another reason why the stars love it so much – it’s discreet and could easily be mistaken for a private residential block to outsiders driving by. But of course, this all changes dramatically as soon as you pull up to the entrance and are promptly greeted by polite bell boys and a valley service. Other notable highlights include The London’s many facilities. Not only does it boast the biggest hotel screening room in LA, which is why many private Hollywood viewings and high profile events are held there, but it has an incredible rooftop bar with a chic (and very Instagram-friendly) swimming pool beneath a huge portrait of the hotel’s adorable mascots, two puppies aptly named Winston and Churchill, and scenic views. The hotel’s only restaurant, Boxwood (serving American style cuisine) and modern bar area are also a delight. Prices from £362 per night for a London Suite.
