It’s been three years since we last saw Idris Elba in his iconic role as DCI Luther but by the sounds of things, we won’t have to wait much longer as season 5 will be hitting our small screens sooner than you think. Rex Features Back in June, Elba took to his personal social media pages to reveal the return of the show with a short trailer ending with a cryptic ‘coming soon’ announcement. But now that the BBC have released their festive line-up, we can officially expect season 5 to premiere this Christmas. Hurrah! Here’s everything you need to know about the new season before it’s back on BBC One. What will the plot of Luther season 5 be Things are about to get very dark according to the official synopsis for the new season which reads: ‘As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit DS Catherine Halliday are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror. ‘But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice.’ ‘Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him – and will change John Luther forever.’ Fans will remember that the last season was full of shocking twists and turns, so we can expect the same this time around.
