YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty Cutting your hair doesn’ t actually make it grow faster apparently By You Magazine - October 15, 2019 One of the oldest beauty rules in the book is that cutting your hair makes it grow faster. Most of us have believed the mantra – based on the theory that keeping hair healthy and free of split ends will encourage it to get fuller and longer – our entire lives, and have probably even used it as the reasoning for an unwanted haircut or two in t he past. But what if we told you that it’s not actually true after all? Getty Images Well, according to writers at Seventeen, we may have all been living this lie, as they’ve found an expert who says there’s actually no connection between your six-weekly chop and the rate your strands grow at all. The magazine spoke to celebrity hair stylist Angela C Styles, who says that there is no real evidence that cutting your hair makes it grow faster after all. Speaking to the publication, Styles set the record straight, explaining: ‘There’s a common myth that cutting your hair will make it grow faster. That’s not necessarily true.’ She continued: ‘Cutting your hair makes it grow healthier because it removes the hair that would split. The hair at the root is able to grow and you’re able to maintain length and avoid splitting. If you allow split ends to stay on the strand, the hair will continue to split and you’ll never see the length.’ Getty Images So in a nutshell, regular trims will help you maintain your long hair whilst keeping it healthy. However, it doesn’t actually accelerate its growth from the root. During the interview, Styles also explained how often you should wash your hair according to your hair type. ‘People with textured hair should be sure to cut their hair every 2-3 months,’ she advised. ‘For people with non-textured hair, haircuts vary based on how fast their hair grows. However, most people should cut their every 6-10 weeks.’ RELATED ARTICLESMORE FROM AUTHOR You could get paid to test Liberty’ s Beauty Advent Calendar People are obsessed with this Revlon hair drying tool A new drop of Boots Star Gifts has landed for Christmas 2022 Popular in Beauty People are seriously impressed with Primark’ s £8 skinny curling tongs December 16, 2019 Boots is giving away free lipsticks to celebrate the launch of January 23, 2020 This long-lasting eyebrow product is getting rave reviews and is just June 21, 2021 These Liz Earle gift sets are on sale just in time March 5, 2020 WIN A Kiehl’ s skincare heroes bundle worth £104 July 24, 2020 Cult skincare brand Sunday Riley is branching out into hair products April 24, 2020 Superdrug is holding a huge BOGOF sale on all cosmetics for May 28, 2020 Your salon could charge you extra for overgrown roots and bad June 25, 2020 Facial steamers Why searches for this beauty gadget were up 400 July 10, 2020 Lush subscription boxes have arrived and they contain exclusive new products August 3, 2020 Popular CategoriesFood2704Life2496Fashion2240Beauty1738Celebrity1261Interiors684 Sign up for YOUMail Thanks for subscribing Please check your email to confirm (If you don't see the email, check the spam box) Fashion Beauty Celebrity Life Food Privacy & Cookies T&C Copyright 2022 - YOU Magazine.
