YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Food These £2 supermarket mince pies have been voted the best for two years running By You Magazine - October 11, 2019 Whether you love them or hate them personally, there’s no denying that as a nation, Britain loves mince pies. In fact, in last year sales of the traditional mincemeat pastries rose by more than 5 per cent, with a total spend reaching £47.7 million. That’s a lot of dried fruit and brandy. With every supermarket and bakery claiming that their version is the most delicious, figuring out which box to buy can be tricky, but according to BBC Good Food, there’s one supermarket brand that should be top of your list this Christmas: Morrisons’ Best All-Butter Mince Pies. Getty Images After sampling dozens of pies from budget options to high-end buys, the experts at the title dubbed Morrisons’ own offering the winner of the category for the second year running, praising their crumbly, shortbread-esque pastry, mincemeat infused with Brazilian orange oil, and festive design. ‘A clear favourite, these taste like classic homemade mince pies,’ said the judges. ‘The mincemeat is nicely spiced, juicy and packed with whole, plump pieces of fruit, while the pastry is short and buttery.’ Sounds pretty perfect to us. Gail Paddy, Own Brand Director at Morrisons commented on the win: ‘We want to provide the best mince pies in the UK and so we are proud to win this accolade again. Customers can now be assured that Morrisons the Best mince pies truly are the best.’ Morrisons The Best All-Butter Mince Pies, £2 for 6, Morrisons It wasn’t the only victory for Morrisons in the BBC Good Food line-up this year: the store also took home the crown for Best Classic Panettone, praised by judges for its buttery moistness, and came first for Vegetarian Main with its The Best Vegetable Layered Tart, which layers spiced beetroot, butternut squash, spinach, onion and chestnuts with cranberry and onion chutney. It was also highly commended for its gluten, wheat and milk-free Free From Mince Pies, although in this category it was Marks & Spencer who ultimately triumphed, with its ‘contrastingly sharp’ Made Without Gluten version.
