And that former camp is bigger than you’d think, with four in ten UK adults claiming they would choose cheese over chocolate and 55 per cent saying they prefer savoury snacks over sweet ones. M&S With this in mind, M&S have excellently filled the gap in the market with the launch of their very first cheese Easter eggs. Yes, that’s right, say hello to the new Marks & Spencer Cheesy Easter Eggs, which look almost too good to eat. Almost. To create the effect of an egg, the ‘white’ is made with Barber’s Farmhouse Cheddar while the ‘yolk’ is a vintage 18-month matured Red Leicester and the ‘shell’ is made of duck egg blue wax. Coming in packs of six, the eggs, which are about the size of large hen’s eggs, even come in a cardboard egg box, for the full eggy experience. In fact, they’re so realistic, we’ll have to be careful we don’t attempt to crack one into the pan on a Sunday morning. M&S Speaking about their latest invention, M&S Product Developer, Rosie Eiduks said: ‘Delicious as it is, we know not everyone loves chocolate, and that the nation is actually divided between Team Sweet and Team Savoury. Those with a more savoury-tooth can sometimes feel left out of the fun at Easter, so this year, we wanted to create a must-have gift for cheese lovers too! Marks & Spencer ‘Not only are our Mini Cheesy Eggs a picture perfect gift, they’re also completely delicious, with our quality Barber’s Farmhouse Cheddar and a vintage Red Leicester yolk. Beautiful served on an Easter lunch cheeseboard, sliced into a sandwich or salad, or loaded on top of crackers.’ The mini cheese eggs are retailing at £8.50 and are available to buy in nearly 600 M&S stores from today. And for true cheese aficionados, a ‘Big Cheesy Egg’, weighing 300g and roughly the dimensions of a goose egg, will also be available to buy for £8 from 250 M&S stores from 18th March. This news comes off the back of a slew of recent M&S inventions, from giant caramel-filled chocolate buttons to the yumnut and Marmite cheese twists. Frankly, we don’t know which one to try first.
