But wonder no more, as today Channel 4 has announced that it will be Matt Lucas who will step into Sandi’s shoes to co-present everyone’s favourite baking show alongside Noel Fielding. Rex Features Channel 4 announced the news this morning via Twitter, saying: ‘On your marks, get set… say hello to the newest member of the Bake Off team – @RealMattLucas’ alongside an accompanying video of the duo discussing their upcoming endeavour: ‘If my mum came along, she would just follow me around going: “Matt, don’t eat that! Matt, I’m serious, don’t!”‘ and practicing classic Bake Off lines, such as: ‘The judges want you to make 24 yeasted festival buns.’ On your marks, get set… say hello to the newest member of the Bake Off team – @RealMattLucas! #GBBO pic.twitter.com/MN6lDox94t - British Bake Off (@BritishBakeOff) March 11, 2020 Matt is clearly equally excited to be joining the iconic show and he posted his own announcement to Twitter, which was a picture of himself dressed as his former Little Britain character Marjorie Dawes holding a a plate of iced buns and grinning, while the caption simply reads: ‘mood’. mood : pic.twitter.com/P15F164n47 - Matt Lucas (@RealMattLucas) March 11, 2020 With both hosts being hugely successful comedians, we can guarantee that hilarity will ensue this autumn when GBBO returns to our screens. As per Bake Off tradition, we can’t wait to see the opening skits these two come up with, and it seems resident judge Prue Leith is left wondering how they will get any work done with such a banterous comedic duo on the scene. She tweeted: ‘So excited to be working with @RealMattLucas , the combination of him and @noelfielding11 , will we stop laughing long enough to get any filming done??!!!’ And it appears she’s not the only one happy to have the former Little Britain star on board. Paul Hollywood also tweeted: ‘I’m a genuine fan of Matt’s, he’s a fantastic addition to the team and I can’t wait to start working with him.’ The news follows Sandi Toksvig’s announcement in January this year when she said that she wanted to withdraw from the ‘all-consuming’ show to focus more time on other projects. We’ll certainly miss Sandi’s wit and humour that she brought to the role, but we’re equally excited to see what special something Matt will bring to the table.
