It turns out she didn’t have to look far from home for creative inspiration, as the story is based on the relationship between husband Prince Harry and son Archie. Getty Images News of this venture comes ahead of Archie’s 2nd birthday on 6 May. According to the Amazon description, the book ‘beautifully captures the special relationship between father and son, as seen through a mother’s eyes. The book’s storytelling and illustration give us snapshots of shared moments that evoke a deep sense of warmth, connection, and compassion.’ Titled The Bench, the book is written by Meghan and illustrated by bestselling artist Christian Robinson. ‘The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,’ the duchess said in a statement. ‘That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolor illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.’ Meghan added: ‘My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.’ The Bench by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, £9.99, Amazon The duchess will also voice an audio version of The Bench, which is available to preorder now. The book will be published by Random House Children’s Books on 8 June 2021. Adding to the description, publishers said: ‘It gives readers a window into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of fathers and sons – moments of peace and reflection, trust and belief, discovery and learning, and lasting comfort.’ Christian Robinson Although this is the first published book written by the Duchess of Sussex, she’s no stranger to sharing her writing with the public. Before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan ran a lifestyle blog called The Tig. She’s also previously been published in Time magazine for an essay about the stigma against periods and guest edited the September 2019 issue of Vogue. Prince Harry and Meghan, who are expecting a baby girl over the coming months, stepped back from royal duties in March 2020. They’ve since been busy launching non-profit organisation Archewell Foundation, signing a deal with Netflix and releasing a podcast series – Archewell Audio. Prince Harry also recently announced he was joining mental health and life coaching start-up BetterUp as a ‘chief impact officer’.
