YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty This skin defending serum can transform your skin in just two weeks By You Magazine - October 7, 2019 Vina Theodorakopoulou, 39, is an economist who lives in London with her civil engineer husband, 41, and their two children, aged four and 22 months. She put Shiseido’s new anti-pollution serum to the test over two weeks, and here’s what happened… I love my bathroom. The walls are painted pale pink and lined with mirrors. The lighting is soft, and I have lush plants dotted around the side of the bath. Even though I am unlikely to enjoy more than a few minutes on my own, I think of it as my haven. It’s here that the daily ritual of applying the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate Serum has become a minute of mindfulness in my otherwise frantic life. Even better, after just two weeks of using it, my skin looks both radiant and younger. Vina’s skin before starting her two-week Shiseido serum trial I eat healthily, I exercise, and I am happy to invest in skincare which I feel really works, so I am of course familiar with Shiseido’s reputation for well researched and cutting edge science, as well as excited to be trying out this serum. For a few years I’ve thought of serums as being a good investment and the epicentre of any anti-ageing regime. They’re the products with the most powerful ingredients. The Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate Serum is designed to generate inner skin defences, protecting against stress, the environment and ageing, which are my three major concerns. As the full time working mother of two very small children and on the verge of 40, I think it’s fair to say that my main skin worry is exhaustion. I feel my complexion is dehydrated, and there are dark circles under my eyes. I have expression lines – let’s call them smile lines – and suffer from a little pigmentation in summer and redness in winter. I am always dashing between work and home, switching from office professional to busy mother. It’s fulfilling but the endless multi-tasking is stressful. In addition, I work in the city and – as a scientist – I am well aware of the effects which increasing pollution levels can have on our skin, never mind the natural ageing process. Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate Serum, from £69, John Lewis & Partners Without having much time at my disposal, my beauty routine needs to be efficient and relaxing. I really can’t spend more than a few minutes on my face, and that’s including make-up application and removal. I need skincare which you can pop on, and then go straight to bed. So the serum appeals on every level. It contains what Shiseido calls ImuGeneration Technology, which uses potent natural extracts to encourage skin to defend itself. The first time I apply the serum I am quite taken aback, in a good way. There’s an instant – and impressive – impact. It sinks in rapidly; within a minute I feel ready to apply the accompanying cream. The massaging action of application also feels beneficial; I know this improves circulation and helps with lymphatic drainage. A little goes a long way, and my skin immediately looks as though I’ve applied an Instagram filter, but in real life. Vina after two weeks of using Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate Serum Two weeks later, I feel that my skin was brighter and more even, and my face is generally smoother and healthier. I feel so confident about my fresh complexion that I have even changed my make-up routine a little. The serum has the same effect as a primer, and I’ve stopped wearing one, as well as applying less foundation to my even complexion. Incredibly, I’m quite happy to go make-up free. Did my husband notice? I’d love to say yes, but I’m afraid not. I’m not sure he’d bat an eyelid if I had a full face lift! My friends are quite another story, and they’ve been very congratulatory about my newly radiant look. I’d say that my corner of South West London is about to see a surge in Shiseido serum use.
