YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Life TELL TRINNY ‘ Help I’ m stuck in a coat rut’ By You Magazine - October 6, 2019 Q: I’ve just dug out all my winter coats and feel totally uninspired – it’s either black, more black or navy. I can’t face wearing the same boring cover-ups over and over again this season. But when I go shopping, I feel overwhelmed by the choice and end up coming home with yet another dull version that looks like all the rest. Amanda, Coventry. It’s important to invest in coats. You might be the kind of woman who has coats to serve a particular purpose – for your commute to work, for example, or to take your dog for a walk every morning – but the ones I’m going to suggest are not those kind. These coats will change you and give a bit of va-va-voom. These are the ones that you will want to keep on for as long as possible because they look so magnificent. Often I see women who take such care and attention with their outfits – then they wear long, dark coats that completely kill the look. A coat should bring life and energy to your wardrobe. And if you’re feeling too hot, you can just drape it over your shoulders – it will still look great. The dressy one £99.99, reserved.com Sometimes you want a coat that is the outfit, such as this jacquard style, from Reserved. It’s one of the best fabrics you can go for because it always keeps its structure – it’s very sturdy – but the sheen and the pattern give it a dressed-up feel. The neutral one £190, cosstores.com If you usually wear black, consider alternatives. I think every woman should have a dove grey coat – it works with most colours, it’s chic and has a Scandinavian feel. This Cos coat is gorgeously simple – no buttons or ties – and it hangs beautifully. The furry one £119.99, reserved.com Every woman can wear this faux-fur coat, also from Reserved. It’s an ageless, brilliant thing to have in your wardrobe as it will go with any colour. This is not the coat you walk the dog in; this is the one you bring out when you want to make an entrance. The sequinned one £75, nastygal.com I know this Nasty Gal coat takes confidence, but it will bring you joy. And sequins are having a moment. I’d wear it with wide-leg jeans and a grey poloneck for day and black trousers and a white shirt for an event. It’s flattering whether you’re small or large chested. Trinny’ s beauty hero No7 Instant Results Nourishing Hydration Mask, £7.50, boots.com When you start turning your radiators on in autumn, your skin can feel drier than normal – and you want something that will really plump and nurture it. I love this mask. Slather it on your face, leave for 15 minutes and take it off with a flannel for fantastic hydration. Where can I find shoes to fit Q: I find shoe shopping difficult as I’ve got tiny feet – a size two – and the budget to match. Are there any high-street shops that sell sophisticated styles? Carol, Yorkshire. A: If you’re on a budget, a brilliant place to start is in the kids’ department – yes, really. There’s no VAT on girls’ shoes up to size three (or size five and a half if the heel is under 4cm), which makes them much cheaper compared to the women’s department. I find that if you avoid logos and look for plain colours there are some chic, grown-up options out there, such as these patent lace-up brogues (£25.99, zara.com). Zara also does a plain leather loafer which looks very stylish. To contact Trinny, email [email protected].
