YOU Magazine Fashion Beauty Celebrity Health Life Relationships Horoscopes Food Interiors Travel Home Beauty Searches for this beauty treatment are up by more than 600 per cent By You Magazine - February 28, 2020 These days we are bombarded by new beauty products, techniques, and treatments. Knowing which are actually worth their salt can be tough, but sometimes, the numbers don’t lie. Beauty treatment booking app Treatwell as just revealed that dermaplaning has grown by +621 per cent year-on-year, marking it as one of 2020’s biggest ongoing trends. But what exactly is dermaplaning, and should you be signing up to have it done? Here’s everything you need to know about the process. Getty What is dermaplaning Dermaplaning is a treatment which offers manual exfoliation, as well as the removal of superfine ‘peach fuzz’ hairs on your face. A trained professional uses a surgical-grade scalpel to scrape away the layer of dead cells at your skin’s surface. It’s a pain-free process, and one that is becoming more and more common and popular. If you like the results, you can continue to have the treatment monthly (it lasts about three weeks). What are the benefits of dermaplaning Dermaplaning is an excellent form of surface exfoliation, as it removes the top layer of dead skin cells. This in turn can leave skin looking brighter, with more of a glow, and skincare products are more easily (and better) absorbed, meaning potentially better skin on the whole. As mentioned, dermaplaning also removes ‘peach fuzz’ from the face, which some can become self conscious about. This can boost confidence and also promote more of a smooth foundation finish on your new baby-soft complexion. Are there any risks of dermaplaning It depends really on the choices you make. In the hands of a doctor or licensed medical aesthetician, it is totally safe and suitable for nearly everyone. However, due to it being a very delicate process, you could easily experience complications and up the risk factor if you don’t go to a trained professional, so this is really important. It’s also worth taking note that while dermaplaning is great for skin that’s ageing, dull, dry, or sun damaged, certain skin types should avoid it at all costs for risk of irritation. If you suffer from extreme sensitivity with things like rosacea, you’re best to steer clear, while if you have acne, it’s best not to take a blade to it in this way! It is recommended that you avoid wearing make-up for a couple of days following your treatment to let things settle, and regarding skincare, it’s best to stick to super nourishing products, rather than anything harsh or acidic. Make sure you remember the SPF, too, as dermaplaning can increase sun sensitivity. There are over 450 destinations at Treatwell that offer dermaplaning. On average, the treatment costs around £45-£85 in London, and between £30 and £60 around the rest of the UK.
